BRITISH SUPERCROSS SHIFTS IN TO HIGH GEAR

It's been a long wait for the British Supercross Championship to fire back up after a sold out round 1 at Belfast Odyssey Arena Back in October. Next up is the stunning O2 Arena in London on February 5th.

A tremendous list of top British riders has been assembled for the event including Rob Hooper Maxxis Suzuki Supercross specialist Steven Clarke fresh off the Australian Supercross tour. Clarke will look to topple the Kawasaki duo of Adam Chatfield and English - German Supercross star Jack Brunnel who went 1-2 at Belfast in the SX2 final. Belfast star of the show, KTM's Martin Barr has confirmed for London. CCM star Tom Church who turned a lot of heads at Belfast will also return for London and Liverpool along with superstar CCM teammate and Multi-time British Motocross Champ Stephen Sword. Defending Champ Gordon Crockard will be looking to the top step of the podium after a dissappointing round 1 of the series aboard his new TAS Suzuki. Head to Head superstar and current German Supercross points leader, Welshman Ashley Greedy is always entertaining and will look forward to carrying his winnings ways back home in the UK. South African Import MVRD Suzuki rider Neville Bradshaw has also confirmed for London and Liverpool. Future West is also hard at working trying to secure the rest of the best British riders.

Of course in addition to the pro's a full youth and amateur program will accompany the premier classes. Riders looking to enter the London and Liverpool events should call the ACU to register asap. The O2 event will be held on the same weekend as the annual MCN London Motorcycle Show at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre just across the Thames.

Future West have been hard at work not only re-jigging the current British Supercross Championship calendar but also lining up an impressive list of international and home grown talent for round one of the series on October 23rd at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast.

H&M Plant KTM UK rider Jake Nicholls is the latest of big name home grown talent to register for the Belfast event along with teammate Alex Eriksson. Add in British American riders MVRD Suzuki Steven Clarke and Adam Chatfield and the chase for the British Supercross Championship gets very interesting. Teaming up with Chatfield on the Maxxis Henderson LPE Kawasaki UK team will be Supercross star Jack Brunnel.

Defending British Supercross Champion Gordon Crockard is set to ignite the hometown fans alongside fellow Ulsterman, PAR Homes Honda's Martin Barr who recently wrapped up the MX2 title in the Red Bull Pro Nationals. South African Samsung Yamaha rider Neville Bradshaw will return to the series after a year layoff and is excited to reignite his indoor passion. Veteran Danny Tollett from Liverpool who finished 3rd in the British Supercross Championship last year will return for the series again in 2010/2011.

Ryan Blizzard and Ben Lamay, both American's riding in Britain will spice up the SX1 and SX2 title hunts along with the ever exciting Kyle Beaton of Canada.

The opening weekend of the British Supercross Championship at the Belfast Odyssey has now been condensed in to a one day event on Saturday October 23rd. In addition the Liverpool date originally in for November 27th has now been moved to February 19th 2011. The O2 event in London will still be on the original published date of February 5, 2011 in conjunction with the MCN motorcycle show at the nearby Excel Centre.

Future West's John Hellam said "The changes at Belfast are necessary due to the present economic climate. Ticket sales for the Friday at Belfast didn't warrant a two day event. We have decided that one packed house on Saturday night is the way to go for this year. We have also had some correspondence from riders that find it too expensive to compete in a two day as opposed to a one day event. Extra time off work or school is an added drain on the competitors in the present economic climate."

The Liverpool round of the British Supercross Championship has now been moved to February 19th. "This date move will give us more flexibility with the organizational side of things as we have taken on more events worldwide this year and date clashes could not have been avoided without these changes." added Hellam. Future West would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and look forward to the revised schedule.

It's no secret that Northern Ireland has produced some great motorcycle racers on and off road. The rapidly approaching rounds of the British Supercross Championship coming up on October 22nd and 23rd inside the Belfast Odyssey Arena are set to showcase Northern Ireland's best.

Newtownard's native and British Supercross defending champ Gordon Crockard will lead the charge as the highest profile motocrosser of the region set to do battle in the indoor comfort of Northern Ireland's premier indoor venue. PAR Homes Honda ace Martin Barr who currently sits 3rd in points in the British Motocross Championship is another top level motocross rider from the region will be lining up to compete against Crockard and a power house line up of international stars.

Another high profile rider with a Belfast connection that has confirmed for the Belfast event is South African born Neville Bradshaw. Bradshaw's parents emigrated to Johannesburg before he was born. Prior to working for Suzuki South Africa Neville's Dad Ian had worked for his brother Morris at MB Motorcycles, the major Suzuki dealer in Northern Ireland at the time. Samsung Yamaha's Bradshaw has been competing in Britain for the last few years and was runner up in the British Supercross Championship just two years ago.

Just four months remain until the start of the 14th Annual Future West ACU British Supercross Championship at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast Northern Ireland on October 22nd and 23rd things are definitely starting to heat up in the Future West camp.

This year’s championship will feature the best arena venues in Britain starting at Belfast before moving on to a one spectacular night at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on Saturday November 27th. The series will once again wrap up at The O2 arena in London on Saturday February 5th in conjunction with the nearby London Excel Motorcycle Show.

With four rounds scheduled and three of the four before the New Year riders and teams are lining up. Future West is hard at work making sure the best of the Brits and a good international field are set for the drop of the gate at round 1. Already confirmed is last year’s British Supercross Champion and Ulster native Gordon Crockard. Birmingham’s Steven Clarke who is currently competing in America will return home to compete at all four rounds of the series before starting the East Coast Supercross series in America. Speaking of American’s the formidable Zach Osborne has once again been confirmed for all rounds riding a Dixon Yamaha. Zach’s British Supercross teammate and crowd pleaser Kyle Beaton of Canada will also be returning to the UK to compete in this years series. Alaskan Ben Lemay who is currently living in the UK will also return to the series after an impressive 2009/2010 British Supercross campaign. South African Neville Bradshaw will make a welcomed return to the series after taking last season off. Bradshaw has shown tremendous skill indoors over the years and is sure to be back on the podium this year. Also confirming for Belfast is Northern Ireland PAR Homes Honda rider Martin Barr.

Future West are pleased to announce The Odyssey Arena in Belfast will host two rounds of the official Future West ACU British Supercross Championship on October 22nd and 23rd of 2010. This will mark the first time ever the British Supercross Championship has visited beautiful Northern Ireland. Fans are sure to go crazy with Ulsterman and defending British Supercross Champion Gordon Crockard sporting the #1 plate.

The fourth annual Merseyside stop of the Future West ACU British Supercross Championship will take place on November 27th, 2010 at the Liverpool Echo Arena two months earlier than its usual late January slot. The move is the first step to eventually have the whole series finished before Christmas in future years.
"It's a good move for several reasons. The weather was atrocious last January which caused some problems finding suitable dirt.” commented Future West's John Hellam.

Moving the Liverpool event to November before the US season starts will also give Future West more choice in star riders for the International classes while making it more viable for British riders to compete. The British riders will also have a better shot at the official ACU British Supercross Championship and the huge £40,000 + in prize money, leaving them with more time to set up and test for the outdoor season post Christmas.

Future West’s goal for the future is to have the championship wrap up before Christmas. “We have a good working relationship with all of the major venues in the UK so in time as dates become available a pre Christmas championship will become a reality.” added Hellam.

The London round at The O2 which is now on sale has also been moved this season to the same weekend as the London Motorcycle Show at the nearby Excel Centre making London the only round of this year's Future West ACU British Supercross Championship to be run after Christmas.

Yamaha UK will be front and centre when the British Supercross Championships burst into life at the NEC in November.

In addition to their financial support Yamaha UK's Steve Dixon's UTAG Yamaha team will be fielding a powerhouse team as a serious effort to clinch the SX1 and SX2 Future West ACU British Supercross Championships. The rapidly approaching Championship, which kicks of at the NEC on Saturday, November 28th and repeats the following Saturday evening, December 5th will run alongside the Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter show.

American ZACH OSBORNE and Canadian KYLE BEATON will be leading the charge for the British based factory backed Yamaha team. Beaton, who just won the Montreal SX2 class in front of 50,000 Canadian fans is on a roll and out to prove himself after an injury earlier in the year dashed his chances of a Canadian outdoor title. Former GP winner Osborne who entered the British Supercross Championship at Liverpool last year after missing the first round at Sheffield will be riding the whole series this year. Osborne also has something to prove after an injury in the GP of Portugal took him out of action earlier in the year.

Osborne and Beaton will be lining up against some serious competition including defending SX1 and SX2 champ, KTM's MIKE BROWN and of course newly sign KTM US factory star MIKE ALESSI. Alessi, arguably one of the fastest racers in the world will be out to re-position himself as top dog after an injury riddled season robbed him of the US outdoor title. Brown will be equally determined to retain his British SX1 and SX2 titles.

The best of home grown British talent will be out to win in all classes. The British Pro Open class which is open to British based riders only will give the fans an extra action packed pro class plus the best of the best in British Schoolboy, Youth, Amateur and Quad classes. None of the British riders seem more ready to beat the yanks than Carl Nunn. Nunn, the defending British Open Supercross champ proved that he can run with and beat the best by winning against Brown at Liverpool last year and by recently winning the Red Bull Pro Nationals MX1 Championship.

Runner up to Nunn last year, Par Homes and Ulster's own Gordon Crockard will be back to contest the series along with DB Racing's British based South African Neville Bradshaw. Bradshaw who recently claimed the Red Bull Pro Nationals MX2 title will be back to further add to the mix. LPE Kawasaki will also be fielding an impressive team with Elliot Banks Brown and Kristian Whatley and possibly an as yet unconfirmed offshore rider. This year's series will also get a first time look at the latest crop of Canadian young guns including Spencer Knowles from Vancouver and Manitoba's Ryan Millar. Both Millar and Knowles are products of the Canadian Arena-cross Championships that has produced some great riders over the last 20 years.

There seems to be some confusion regarding tickets for the NEC. Just to clarify the Supercross events are ticketed separately from the Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter show and can be bought through The Ticket Factory box office on 0844 338 8000.

With one week to go to the opening round of the Future West ACU British Supercross Championship at Hall 5 of the NEC on Saturday November 28th the rider line up is looking very interesting in all classes.

Defending SX1 and SX2 Champ Mike Brown will be back to run the #1 plate. Steve Dixon's U-tag Yamaha team will be fielding a large four man rider line-up starting with US rider Zach Osborne. Osborne would have been a strong contender for last year's SX1 and SX2 titles had he not missed the opening round at Sheffield. This year Osborne will be competing in the whole series in his quest to pry away the #1 plates from Brownie who just happens to be his friend and neighbour states side. It's not going to be a walk in the park for Osborne or Brown as recent German Supercross winner and fellow American Cole Siebler will be joining the British series at the NEC on the second weekend on December 5th. Siebler recently split wins with Kyle Beaton at the opening rounds of the Canadian Arenacross Championship in Chilliwack, British Columbia.

Newly Crowned Canadian MX1 champ and 2 time British Supercross champ Colton Facciotti will be back to contest the whole series on Dixon Utag Yamaha's. With two consecutive Canadian MX1 titles under his belt Facciotti will be on a mission to get back his British title from Mike Brown and add a third BSX title to his growing collection. Another Canadian who will be returning to the UK is Kyle Beaton. Beaton is well known and liked by the British fans for his never say die come from behind style of racing best demonstrated at Cardiff a few years ago when he worked his way through the field to take the win and more recently at The O2 in London in 08 when he did the came from behind and pipped Mike Brown to the post. Beaton will also be contesting the whole series again on a Dixon prepared YZ250F.

Some new, to the British Supercross Championship Americans, will also be competing this year including Ben Lamay who will be riding a Samsung Yamaha and Ryan Blizzard who will be on board a Merideth Suzuki. If that's not enough two more Canadians will be making the trip, Spencer Knowles will be the fourth member of the Dixon Yamaha squad, Knowles is touted as being one of the big names of the future from Canucksville. The 16 year old from Vancouver trains with Kyle Beaton and has picked up some of Beaton's speed and determination. The final Canadian on the list for the NEC is Colton McLean from Vancouver Island, McLean will be riding a DK Off Road prepared Suzuki.

There are a couple of disappointments, one being Mike Alessi's withdrawal from all Supercross events including European, Australian and US events. Future West's John Hellam had this to say about the controversial Alessi, "Mike was supposed to come to our Sheffield event last year but was unable to because of an injury, his absence did not hurt the series as the racing was very close without him. This year any one of a number of great riders could win with such an evenly matched field." Another possible change to the line up is the possibility that defending British Open Supercross champion Carl Nunn will not be fully fit in time for the opening round at the NEC. If that turns out to be the case Nunn will join the series for the last 2 rounds at Liverpool on January 23rd and London on January 30th.

With the possibility of Nunn missing the opening round, the door is wide open for the British Open Supercross Championship. Ulster's, Gordon Crockard who narrowly lost last year's championship to Nunn in the last race at The O2 will be a strong contender again this year. Crockstar has fully recovered after his Hawkstone Park incident and is chomping at the bit. Crockard will have some strong competition with his fellow countryman Martin Barr. Barr had to dip out of last year's series after receiving an injury at round 2 in Liverpool and is all fired up to put his Relentless Suzuki up front and clinch a British Supercross title. Elliot Banks Browne will be making his début on for DB Racing Honda and will be there to spoil Crockard and Barr's plans as will LPE's Kawasaki Kristian Whatley and Honda's Jordan Rose.

The L.P.E. Kawasaki team has announced a title-challenging team ahead of the first rounds of the 2009 / 2010 Future West ACU British Supercross Championship, which takes place for the first time at The Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter Show on the 28th November and 5th December 2009.

The impressive Kristian Whatley, currently positioned 2nd in both the MMX British Open Championship and The Wulfsport British Masters Championship, will compete alongside team-mate Elliott Banks Browne who has recovered from injury to record recent podium finishes at the MMX Championship and The Ken Hall Trophy. L.P.E. Kawasaki is also looking to strengthen its team by drafting in a top international MX star for the prestigious series.

The Future West ACU British SX Championship is an exciting new addition to the Show which, for the first time, has a dedicated Off-Road Zone with retail and display stands showcasing the latest bikes and kit from all the leading brands. L.P.E. Kawasaki, the official motocross team in the UK for Kawasaki Motors, is looking forward to unveiling the manufacturer's new KX450F model in front of the capacity crowds of six-thousand fans expected at the supercross track in Hall 5 of the NEC. The Kawasaki race truck and display stand will also be present throughout the ten day Show to profile its stable of 2010 models from the Kawasaki off-road range, with team riders on hand to meet fans and sign autographs.

Steve James, Team Manager for L.P.E. Makita Suzuki US factory star Mike Alessi has just confirmed that he will be at the NEC for the opening round of this year's Future West ACU British Supercross Championship on November 28th to compete in the SX1 class.

Mike who was to have competed in last year's BSX opener at Sheffield before an injury ended his season said "I was really disappointed not to make it to the UK last year, that injury took me out of action for some time, I can't wait to be racing back in England especially on the big track that is planned for Birmingham." Alessi has shown that he is one of the fastest riders in the US by leading in the US outdoor premier class points battle earlier this year before another injury finished his hopes at what looked like a legitimate shot at the US premier class title.

Alessi will be competing at Birmingham against a star studded line-up including fellow American and defending British SX1 Champ Mike Brown, British Open class champ Carl Nunn will also be back to defend his British Open title. Last year Nunn and Gordon Crockard thrilled the crowds when they battled down to the wire throughout the four round action packed championship, the duo tangled in the final race at London's O2 Arena with Nunn coming out on top to capture his second BSX title.

SUPER QUADS = SUPERCROSS SUCCESS

Last year's trial running of Quads at two of the Future West ACU British Supercross Championship rounds proved to be a hit with the fans and riders alike. As a result of last year's success the Quads will be back and will run all 4 rounds of this year's series. Time restraints will limit the Quads to one class only in the form of an open class which will be open to all ACU lic holders. The Quad class will have full British Supercross Championship status.

A spokesman from series organisers Future West said, "Everyone seemed to enjoy the Quads at Liverpool and London last season and we are more than happy to welcome them back this year." There are a lot of quad owners out there that don't necessarily use their machines to race but love to see what the high-tech versions can do in competition. Many of these machines have a huge amount invested in them and are loaded with exotic hand built parts reminiscent of the old hand built GP bikes worth a close up peek if you get the chance.

"Being at the NEC this year as part of the Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter Show has opened up some unique opportunities for Supercross and the British Championship" commented Future West's Representative John Hellam. Hellam went on to say "It's been a long time since we last staged an event at the NEC and never before as part of the International Motorcycle show."

This will be Future West's first residency event in the UK as the track will be in for the full 10 day duration of the bike show which will include the first two rounds of the British Supercross Championship and daily Supercross demonstrations on none race days. Dirt Wurx, Rich Winkler, will have a large canvas to perform his magic on at the NEC with twice the normal floor size and twice the amount of dirt normally used for the other British venues. The rest of Hall 5 at the NEC will be converted into an off-road zone that will include a who's who in the industry with all major sanctioning bodies, manufacturers and personalities present. Future West is in the process of organising additional optional practice evenings for riders who will be competing in the championship. The final details are still being worked out but these practice sessions will probably be held on Thursday and Friday evenings prior to the two race days.

From Birmingham the British Supercross Championship will move on to the Liverpool Echo Arena January 23rd before wrapping up at The O2 Arena in London on January 30th.

If the opening round of the AMA Endurocross at Las Vegas was anything to go by Sheffield fans are in for something special when round one of the Indoor Enduro World Cup kicks off on October 31st at Sheffield Arena.

Future West's John and Jamie Hellam took in the first round of the AMA Endurocross series and left extremely excited about their up coming Sheffield Indoor Enduro World Cup round. "What an incredible event, no one should be expected to win one of these events, so many things can and do take you out of the equation in an instant. We are so excited to be bring one of these events to the UK. The crowd at Vegas were on their feet right to the very end and after witnessing this event this weekend and adding the top British and Europeans riders to the mix including David Knight, Taddy Blazusiak and Ivan Cervantes we are sure Sheffield is going to be an incredible event and every bit as exciting." commented John Hellam.

This weekend's epic three way battle between KTM teammates Taddy Blazusiak and Mike Brown as well as Kawasaki's defending series champ Ricky Dietrich had the crowd on their feet right to the very end with a photo finish. Taddy and Ricky blitzed the fast lap time trials in the afternoon and comfortably won their evening qualifiers while Brown blew his fast lap time and first qualifier with a couple of unscheduled rock sampling incidents leaving him to qualifying through the semi's by which time Mike had things under control, if that's possible in one of these events.

In the final. Blazusiak grabbed the holeshot and looked to be in control before getting stuck in the infamous "Rock garden". Enter Brown who had a bad start due to poor gate pick. Brown put his Supercross skills to good use and leaped past Blazusiak into the pond area taking the lead from the "Polish Prince". The race banged, crashed and splashed through its closing laps with Brownie looking set for a victory before the unpredictable which seems to be the essence of these events happened. The "Rock Garden" once again claimed Brown allowing both the Polish Prince and the American Champ Dietrich to squeeze by but not before Taddy had a unexpected dip in the pool and a major get together with Dietrich. Taddy put his trials skill to work flipping his bike out of a hopelessly boxed in position in one incredible 180 degree leap. After Dietrich put his jaw back in place he managed to close up on Blazusiak and both came together once again with Dietrich getting up and going first. With only two corners to go it looked like Dietrich had it sewn up until the unpredictability of this sport once again claimed the leader, this time in the form of a log that snagged Dietrich. Blazusiak not shy when it comes to taking an opportunity capitalized and again took the lead this time by several bike lengths and less than one straight to the chequered flag. This time Blazusiak looked to have it in the bag when Dietrich made one last ditch effort to pass Taddy by holding the throttle wide open over the treacherous loose log section crossing the line side by side with Blazusiak who took the win by inches.

LAMPKIN AND JARVIS JOIN KNIGHT IN INDOOR ENDURO WORLD CUP LINE UP

Five time indoor and seven time outdoor world trials champion Dougie Lampkin MBE and 5 time British trials champ Graham Jarvis are the latest British stars to confirm for the brand new to the UK Indoor Enduro World Cup event at the Sheffield arena on October 31st.

When the gate drops at Sheffield for the 1st round of this year's World Championship Jarvis and Lampkin will both be in the hunt for World and British Indoor Enduro championships. Lampkin presently recovering from a wrist injury whilst competing in the British Trials Championship is looking forward to getting back into action soon and showing another side of his two wheel talents to the British fans. While the fans will be enjoying the warm, dry comforts of the Sheffield Arena, the riders will making a splash and getting wet as one of the features of the David Knight designed tracks will include a water dip.

Both Lampkin and Jarvis have previously competed in European rounds of the Indoor Enduro World Cup with impressive top finishes last year. The Yorkie duo were both spotted getting in some practice for the big event at the recent 321 endurocross.

Former series champ David Knight and the Yorkshire duo could give Polish Wildman Taddy Blazusiak who recently won the Las Vegas Endurocross a run for his money. Blazusiak also has roots in trials before becoming an Enduro star. Along with Blazusiak, Knight and company will also have there hands full with Spain's Ivan Cervantes who is the defending series champ as well as French ace Antoine Meo. Also confirmed for Sheffield is Supercross and MX star Mike Brown from America. Brown is sure to joined by a host of top British Supercross and MX talent.

Future West are very excited to announce that they have been awarded the exclusive rights to stage a round of the FIM Indoor Enduro World Cup in the United Kingdom on Saturday the 31st of October 2009 at Sheffield Arena.

The British Supercross Championship will now begin at the NEC as part of the Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter show on Saturday 25th November 2009. Sheffield, which has staged the Supercross event for 13 years will now be host to a round of the very unique FIM Indoor Enduro World Cup. This will feature the World's very best Endurocross riders from around the globe on a specially created indoor course featuring rock and log sections designed to challenge the toughest of the tough!

Future West boss John Hellam said "Sheffield is an excellent venue and an ideal place to introduce the World Indoor Enduro into the UK. Britain's favourite off-road Enduro star David Knight is all set to entertain the fans and start another World Championship campaign at the first ever FIM Indoor Enduro World Cup round to be held in the UK at the Sheffield Arena on Saturday, October 31st.

David Knight is the first Brit to confirm and will no doubt be followed by a bevy of home grown stars eager to take on the best International Enduro stars in the World. Knighter, along with the Dirt-Wurx crew will be designing an amazing and challenging track fit for Champions. The British Supercross Championship bursts back into action with a vengeance with three nights of racing over two consecutive weekends. It all gets going at Liverpool's Echo Arena on Friday January 23rd and Saturday the 24th, followed by the finale at The O2 Arena, London on Saturday January 31st.

The series has attracted the best of British Supercross riders and an impressive line-up of international riders from the US, Canada, South Africa, France, Spain, Ireland and Scandinavia. The US will be represented by current British SX1 champ and former US outdoor champ Mike Brown and latest additions to the line-up US rider Zach Osborne and Teddy Maier who will be making their British Supercross debuts.

Osborne impressed GP fans by winning his first GP in Ireland in 2008 and will be competing on a Dixon UTAG Yamaha. Kawasaki rider Teddy Maier from Iowa has made a name for himself in US Arena-cross and more recently the Canadian Arena-cross and Motocross Championships.

Speaking of Canadians Dixon UTAG Yamaha will also be represented at both Liverpool and London by three Canadian riders, also British Supercross regulars with SX2 British Supercross Champ Colton Facciotti, who took the win in the SX1 class at Sheffield back in October. Joining him will be former Canadian Arena-cross champion and last year's winner at The O2 Arena, Kyle Beaton plus five times Canadian MX1 champion Jean Sebastian Roy better known as JSR. Other Canadians making the trip over the Atlantic will be last year's Liverpool SX2 winner Kris Foster, who will be joined by fellow Canadian Kawasaki team-mate Brock Hoyer on DK Offroad Kawasaki's. South African's Neville Bradshaw and Lloyd Vercuiel, Spain's Xavier Hernandez and Norwegian Rasmus Jorgensen will also add to the international line-up

The best of the UK will also be raring to go. Ireland's PAR Honda rider Gordon Crockard, Relentless Suzuki's Martin Barr and former British Outdoor and Supercross Champ MVRD Suzuki rider Carl Nunn are amongst the favourites for the new British Open Supercross title as is head to head star Ashley Greedy. Greedy, the hugely popular head to head dash for cash star will keep the fans on the edge of their seats adding to the entertainment.

US mini motocross manufacturer, Cobra, has gained a reputation second to none for building highly competitive quality mini MX race machines and Cobra Motorcycles has announced it will be a major sponsor of the British Supercross Championship.

Cobra Motorcycles will be the title sponsor of the 50cc class and is stepping up by offering a factory supported 65cc ride for 2009 aboard its new 65cc machine to the winner of the championship in the Auto class.
The introduction of Cobra’s new and long awaited 65cc machine has given notice to the other major brands that it means business and has the in-house capabilities to develop and produce world class racing machines that have a history of winning races in the highly competitive US market place.
The history of Cobra is a unique story. Bud Maimone, the founder of Cobra, owned a tool and die shop and raced with his son Brent in the fledgling 50cc class during the early 1990s. In those days there was no out-of-the-crate solution for purchasing a race bike and the class was made up of highly modified recreational models.
After trying to convince several manufacturers to produce a race-ready bike, Bud finally took the plunge himself when all of his avenues were exhausted. What resulted was a dynamite little bike and over the years Cobra has developed quite a following and over the past 10 years, both Bud Maimone and Cobra Motorcycles have become legends in the motocross world claiming over 200 American national titles, including 25 AMA National Championships at Loretta Lynn’s ranch.
Today Cobra Motorcycles is headed by Sean Hilbert who has taken the company to the next level which is evident by its recent sweep of the 50cc classes at the 2008 Loretta Lynn’s AMA Amateur Nationals along with its introduction of the highly competitive, high-spec CX65cc machine - a motorcycle which earned its first national title last spring at the Lake Whitney Spring Classic held in Texas.

THE STARS COME OUT FOR SHEFFIELD

A star-studded lineup of international talent has been assembled for round one of the British Supercross Championship slated for October 25th at the Sheffield Arena. Following on from last weeks announcement of US Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Mike Alessi and brother Jeff Alessi confirming to compete at Sheffield more names were released this week including the two defending British Supercross Champs Mike Brown and Colton Facciotti among others.

Newly crowned Canadian MX1 champion Colton Facciotti will be back at Sheffield on October 25th to defend his British SX2 title. Facciotti dominated the Canadian Motocross Nationals in the premier MX1 class with eight overall wins out of a nine round series despite missing one of the rounds with a broken collarbone. Facciotti will again be competing in two classes at Sheffield taking a shot at SX1 and defending his SX2 championship. Defending SX1 British Supercross champ Mike Brown will also be back at Sheffield to campaign in both SX1 and SX2 championship battles. Neither Brown or Facciotti will be eligible to compete in the brand new British Supercross Championship Open class which is only open to the best of the British regulars which will make its debut at Sheffield.

Other star riders include Canadian and crowd favourite Kyle Beaton who has confirmed for Sheffield. Beaton’s come from behind charges always have the fans on the edge of their seats as witnessed at the final round of the British Supercross Championship at London’s O2 Arena back in February where Beaton battled through the field to catch and pass Mike Brown for the win in the Pro Open class. Beaton along with Brown and Facciotti will also be competing in both the SX1 and SX2 classes.

US rider and former World Supercross champ Heath Voss will be making his first appearance in the British Supercross Championship at Sheffield competing in the SX1 class. Joining Voss will be fellow countryman and former winner of the Montreal Supercross Jason Thomas. Thomas is no stranger to British Supercross after making appearances at the last two Sheffield events. More riders will be added to the line up in coming weeks. ALESSI BROTHERS IN FOR SHEFFIELD

Future West are pleased to announce America’s fastest Motocross brothers Mike and Jeff Alessi have confirmed to appear and compete at the 12th annual Sheffield Supercross, Round 1 of the British Supercross Championship on Saturday the 25^th of October at Sheffield Arena.

Rockstar Makita Suzuki US factory star Mike Alessi’s recent crash whilst maintaining a strong second place in the AMA US Motocross Championship has temporarily taken him out of racing action in America. Mike’s rapid recovery has been amazing after his horrific Budds Creek crash. Unfortunately Mike's rapid recovery will not be complete in time to represent the US at the Motocross of Nations at Donnington Park in September as originally planned. The good news is that Mike will be fighting fit in time for Sheffield.

Mike’s younger brother Jeff who currently sits 9^th in the AMA Motocross championship won at Sheffield in 2007 ahead Mike Brown. Jeff will again make the trip to Sheffield looking to repeat victory.

Future West spokesman John Hellam commented “We are very excited that Mike and Jeff will both be competing at Sheffield. We already have a strong line-up of riders secured for Sheffield but the addition of Mike and Jeff should make for great racing.” Along with Alessi brothers a larger than usual number of US riders will also be competing in the SX1 and SX2 classes at Sheffield, names of whom will be announced over the next few weeks.

“The addition of Mike Alessi to the planned line up has come as a welcome bonus. Many of the loyal fans that have attended Sheffield over the years know the Alessi brothers have a strong connection to Sheffield and our UK events. Really Mike and Jeff both cut there teeth in pro class Supercross competition prior to their rise to fame in the US pro ranks. British Supercross fans had a sneak prevue of what was to come in the US when the Alessi brothers showed up at Sheffield a few years back, since then Mike Alessi deservedly earned the number one spot on the 2008 Roger Decoster managed Rockstar Makita Suzuki team replacing the retired Ricky Carmichael. The rumoured absence of James Stewart from the 2009 US AMA Motocross Championship next year leaves Mike Alessi as the number one contender for US outdoor crown and a must see at Sheffield.

SUPERCROSS RETURNS TO THE O2 ARENA!

Future West has now confirmed that London's spectacular O2 Arena will again play host to the final round of the official British Supercross Championship. Currently rated as the world's number 1 arena, the O2 will once again rumble to the sounds of Supercross on Saturday January 31st just one week after the Liverpool double header on January 23rd and 24th.

The British Supercross Championship series will kick of at Sheffield Arena on Saturday October 25th marking the 12th consecutive return to the South Yorkshire venue affectionately referred to as the home of British Supercross. "We would like to expand the series and are exploring the possibilities of introducing other venues which could happen as early as this year" said Future West's John Hellam. "We currently have three of the best venues in the country and would like to maintain that standard throughout the expansion of the series by adding quality venues each year until the sport reaches its maximum potential in the UK" adds Hellam.

This year's calendar has been tightened up and will end three weeks earlier than last year to avoid any possible calendar conflicts with the Under 21 and Hawkstone International events giving all of the British riders an unobstructed shot at the new British Supercross Championship class title as well as the SX1 and SX2 pro titles. The popular youth and clubman classes will also once again have national titles with some changes to the structure of the schoolboy classes which will be announced shortly. The recent long-term exclusive agreement reached between the ACU and Future West for British Supercross championship has given the series huge credibility as an additional major British Championship to compliment the outdoor Maxxis championship.

New Championship class for British Supercross Championship

FIRST CLASS OF SUPERCROSS

Following on from last weeks announcement of a long term deal for British Supercross, Future West is pleased to announce the restructuring of pro racing at British Supercross Championship events. The new changes will see the addition of a Pro British Supercross Championship title class for British ACU licensed riders only.

In addition to the British Supercross Championship class there will also be titles to be had by the top International Supercross stars and british pro competitors in the SX2 (formerly Pro Lights) and SX1 (formerly Pro Open). Riders in all three classes will see the same purse schedule giving the British riders chance to earn more money. These changes will mean fans will get to see more great top level racing action during the evening. The addition of the "British only" British Supercross Championship class is one of the exciting changes marked for the British Supercross Championships in 08/09.

"We are very excited to add this class to our racing schedule, its a great opportunity for the British based riders and teams to jump on board and help us build a series that is both beneficial and prestigous for their riders and sponsors." says Future West's John Hellam. British Supercross Returns to Echo Arena Liverpool

Former US and British Motocross champ and defending British Supercross champion Mike Brown has confirmed he will be making the trip from his home in Tennessee to defend his prestigious Supercross title at Liverpool. Brown will be competing against riders from around the world including the very best British indoor competitors as well as local riders Danny Tollett who competes in the pro class and Jacob Marsden who competes in the 85cc schoolboy class. Both Tollett and Marsden are both planning to be back in action for the event after injury in last years inaugural Supercross at the Echo Arena Liverpool which put both of them out of contention.

Over 120 loads of dirt will be brought inside the arena and sculpted into a full on race course, full of jumps and technically challenging obstacles designed to put the best riders to the test all designed by the best in the business, Rich Winkler of Dirt Wurx USA.

In addition to top notch pro racing, the very best youth riders in the UK will compete including little guys and girls on pint sized mini bikes. Also included is the very popular "Head 2 Head" competition which pits the best pro riders 1 on 1 in an elimination competition.

After 11 years of British Supercross a long term deal has finally been inked between Future West, the long time promoter of British Supercross and the Auto Cycle Union to sanction exclusively the British Supercross Championship. The agreement will set the stage for the long term growth of the sport to its full potential in the UK. The deal was signed and sealed last week by Future West's John Hellam and ACU Chairman Jim Parker.

"We are really pleased with the final outcome of the deal!" says Hellam. "It will give everyone involved the opportunity to work together and take the sport to the next level. Supercross has become an integral part of motocross racing worldwide and a welcome and important extension to the racing season. We have a large following for our series and it keeps the fans engaged in the sport through out the long damp and cold winter months" added Hellam.

Jim Parker, ACU Chairman, commented that he is delighted that the ACU has been given the opportunity to work with Future West and John Hellam to secure the growth of Supercross in the UK via a fully fledged British Championship.

With the signing of a long term agreement, the ACU is extremely confident that this exciting sport has a solid foundation for expansion and we shall certainly be in there helping wherever we can to ensure the success of the series in every possible way.

There cannot be many motorcycle enthusiasts who haven't heard about Supercross but anyone who hasn't is urged to go along at the earliest opportunity to witness at first hand the tremendous atmosphere and excitement that this challenging sport generates.

Brian Higgins stated the ACU recognise the Future West series has stability after ten years of promoting events in the UK and the official link between the ACU and Future West can only be good for the sport. I know Future West have some special high profile venues which will hopefully introduce the spectacular sport to some new people in fresh areas.

Supercross has become a great opportunity for the industry to show off their new product and for teams the chance to showcase and entertain there sponsors as well as their new team riders but most of all it is now a major legitimate British Championship.

With GP tracks now featuring more Supercross style obstacles it is becoming more and more important for teams and riders to participate in the tighter version of the sport in the autumn/winter period getting riders prepared for the upcoming outdoor seasons and is also a cheaper alternative to costly training trips to Spain or the US. You only have to look at riders like Tommy Searle, Ashley Greedy and Max Anstie who have gained a lot of useful experience in British Supercross and are now putting to good use in their careers.
